Donation From Community Partner to Support Youth Safe Cycling

April 12, 2022

A wonderful thing happened today…

Rick and Minela Orum, owners of LaSalle Towing and Recovery Inc, on Malden Road in LaSalle have donated $2000.00 to the LaSalle Police Youth Foundation to be used toward the annual LaSalle Police Bicycle Rodeo.

They explained that they are very passionate about bicycle safety and ensuring that our local youth have access to meaningful instruction in safe riding practices. Their passion is rooted in the unfortunate circumstance where their son was struck while riding his bike several years ago and as a result, he suffered a significant, life-altering injury. They felt that this was the perfect opportunity for them to give back to the community by investing in a program designed to teach bicycle safety to our children and reached out to LaSalle Police Service Community Liaison Officer, Senior Constable Seguin.

On Tuesday, April 12th, 2022, Chief Davies and Senior Constable Seguin attended LaSalle Towing and Recovery Inc, located at 9350 Malden Road in LaSalle to accept the donation.

The LaSalle Police Youth Foundation was founded in 2002 with the primary goal of offering assistance to youth and family-related charities, events, activities, and programs throughout LaSalle and Windsor-Essex County. All funds raised through amazing donations such as this as well as our annual golf tournament have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, all of which are donated back to the community.

The annual LaSalle Police Bicycle Rodeo has been on hiatus due to the pandemic but we are proud to announce that we will resume this event this year on June 4th, 2022 at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex. There will be instructors from LaSalle Police and Bike Windsor Essex on hand as well as a professional BMX stunt Rider to put on a skills show for the participants. There will also be a raffle of three bicycles and a pizza lunch supplied…all free of charge. This is thanks to Rick and Manila Orum and their wonderful community partnership.  The details of this event will be advertised in the coming weeks.

Anyone or any business that is interested in finding out how they can get involved to assist the LaSalle Police Youth Foundation in its goal to support our local youths is encouraged to reach out to Senior Constable Terry Seguin for more information at tseguin@lasallepolice.ca.
