Lock It or Lose It

December 4th marks the kick off of the Lock it or Lose it campaign

(#LockItORLoseIt)

Lock it or Lose it is a yearly campaign that is initiated by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) This crime prevention initiative encourages drivers and passengers to take precautions in protecting their vehicles and contents from theft, particularly during the holiday season. Police are urging motorists to lock their vehicles and keep valuables such as GPS and mobile devices, laptops, shopping bags, money and credit cards out-of-sight or better yet, don’t leave them in the vehicle.

During the Lock It OR Lose It campaign, across the province, police officers, auxiliary officers, and crime prevention personnel may examine parked vehicles to confirm they are locked and that no valuables have been left in plain view. A small notice is placed on vehicles advising what safety precautions were neglected and offer simple prevention tips for drivers to protect their vehicles against theft. The notices also congratulate drivers who have secured their vehicle. Police will use Lock It OR Lose It (LIOLI) notices throughout the year as part of their on-going crime prevention efforts. From time to time you may read articles posted by the LaSalle Police Service regarding thefts from, and of motor vehicles followed by a reminder to lock it or lose it. By following this simple means of crime prevention we can all contribute to significantly reducing crime in our community.
