LPS Event #21-5292
On Friday May 7th, at approximately 4:30 PM, a red Chevrolet Cruze driven by an 82 year old male from Windsor was travelling west on Todd Lane and made a left turn onto Canada Street. At the same time a 59 year old male from LaSalle was riding his bicycle east on Todd Lane, through the intersection when the collision occurred.
According to witnesses, the cyclist tried to turn out to avoid a collision but was struck by the Chevy in the crosswalk on Canada Street. The cyclist was knocked to the ground and was pinned under the front of the Chevy. Paramedics and LaSalle Fire Service tended to the cyclist who was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Members of the LaSalle Police Service Technical Collision Investigation Unit and Forensic Unit kept the road closed until approximately 8:30 PM to complete their investigation.
The driver of the Chevy was charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm under Section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act and was also issued a three day drivers licence suspension for having more that 50 mgs of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
The extent of the injuries to the cyclist are not known at this time but are not expected to be life threatening. The investigation into the matter is continuing.
