On Friday, July 2nd, 2021 just before 2:30 PM, a LaSalle Police Officer conducting radar/traffic enforcement on Front Road observed a Hyundai Tiburon travelling at 92 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. The officer stopped the vehicle and issued the adult male driver a summons for drive motor vehicle perform stunt- speeding by 40 or more km/h in a zone that is less than 80 km/h. His drivers licence was suspended and his motor vehicle was towed and impounded.
Beginning on July 1st, 2021 the government of Ontario made changes to Section 172(1) – of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
Stunt Driving as it relates to speeding is:
-Driving 40 km/h or more over the speed limit in a zone where the speed limit is less than 80 km/h
or
-Driving 50 km/h or more over the speed limit in a zone where the speed limit is 80 km/h or higher.
Drivers are subject to an automatic and immediate 30 day driver’s licence suspension (previously 7 days), as well as a 14 day vehicle impoundment, (previously 7 days).
