CRA Scams continue.
Canadians continue to endure endless attempts by unscrupulous professional scam artists who try to defraud us of our hard earned money and identities. These scams are purely for a financial gain. This occurs all over the world.
If you receive any e-mails or messages advising you owe the government money or that they owe you money (i.e. Tax Refund) do not click any link. This is a Phishing Scam. The trick is to get you excited or worried.
To properly check the status of your tax return, create an account on the Canada Revenue Agency website at:
https://www.canada.ca/…/e-services…/account-individuals.html
Once you are registered you will be sent a secret code either by mail or e-mail. Once you are completely set up and logged in, you will be able to view any of the details of your account with the CRA. No need to click links which will likely bring you somewhere you don’t want to be but won’t know until it’s too late.
Conversely you may also make inquiries to the CRA to verify any correspondence at 519 258-8032 or 1-800-959-8281.
Further, if you have your taxes/returns completed by an accountant, they may also be able to verify any issues.
Bottom line…don’t click any links on any e-mail or messages.
