Stunt Driving Charge for Speeding on Malden Road

A Sudbury male earned himself a date in court to answer why he was operating a vehicle at 98 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Malden Road near Edgemore in LaSalle on Thursday Morning.

Just after 1:30 a.m., a LaSalle Police officer observed the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed which was recorded on the mobile radar unit at 98 km/h. The officer stopped the vehicle and issued the driver with a summons for Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Speeding, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. As a result of the charge, his drivers licence was automatically suspended for a period of 30 days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for a period of 14 days, for which he will be responsible for all associated towing and storage fees.
If convicted, he will face a fine of not less than $2000.00 and his licence could be suspended for not more than two years (if this is a first conviction) and not more than ten years on any subsequent conviction.

Every kilometer you travel over the speed limit increases your stopping distance and decreases your ability to avoid a hazard. As your speed increases so does everyone’s chances of being injured or killed if you are involved in a collision.
Please drive safely and follow the rules of the road.
