Theft from a Vehicle

On November 6, 2019, A resident of Outram Avenue reported to police that their vehicle had been entered overnight and several items were stolen from within including gift cards and change. The vehicle had been parked on their driveway but was left unlocked. Generally, theft from motor vehicles are a crime of opportunity. The opportunity in this case was that; a-the vehicle was left unlocked making it an easy target and b-items of value had been left within making it a profitable target. In this, and many instances we can apply CPTED principles and lock the vehicle as well as removing all valuables from within or at least from sight. Lock it or Lose it.
