Fraud
In the evening on this day an officer spoke with a female who stated that she had noticed two remarkable charges on her credit card statement. She contacted TD to freeze her credit card and then contacted Amazon to identify why her credit card was charged. One charge was identified while the second was not. Later that day the female received a call from a male who stated that he was an employee at Amazon; he asked if she had made a purchase from Amazon that day, when she stated that she did not she was directed to download an application called “team viewer” and a money transfer site called “pay send sign up”. She entered personal information on to the application, including her Visa card number and PIN. With these applications installed and after following his instructions the male was then able to take over her tablet and control her keys. The male was NOT an Amazon employee.

Realizing that it was a scam the female contacted her bank and froze her accounts and was advised by police to contact Equifax or Transunion.

We want to warn all residents not to give out personal information over the phone/on a website unless you can be sure that it is legitimate. If you suddenly realize that you have been scammed and someone has taken over your device, IMMEDIATELY shut it off with the power button and disconnect your wifi or internet connection to the device. Motor Vehicle Collision: Personal Injury
In the early evening, officers attended the area of Todd Lane and Tenth Street for a reports of a collision between a motor vehicle and a cyclist. LaSalle Fire and EMS attended as well and found the male teen cyclist and their bike trapped underneath the involved vehicle. When emergency services arrived, nearby bystanders/witness’s were helping to lift the vehicle off of the cyclist to relieve the pressure to his body. Once officers were on scene, traffic was blocked off in all directions and paramedics attended to the teenage boy. LaSalle Fire was on scene shortly after and took over the heavy lifting. The cyclist was transported to the hospital along with his parents. The male youth sustained some moderate injuries but is expected to fully recover. There were several witnesses who provided details of the event to officers and provided a clear account of what had transpired. The driver of the vehicle was charged with “Start from Stopped Position – not in safety sec 142(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.” While this may have not been a factor in this collision, everyone is strongly encouraged to wear a safety helmet at all times while riding a bicycle. You must also have a bell or sound signaling device on your bike. It is the law and it may save your life. One of our very own members credits the use of wearing a safety helmet while riding a bike for saving their life. Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye to anyone, anywhere at any time!
