On January 1st, 2019, An Officer was conducting radar patrol in an unmarked vehicle when he observed a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction at high rate of speed. When the vehicle drove past him, the officer’s vehicle actually shook. The officer conducted the traffic stop, identified the male, and advised him he was going over the speed limit by 60km/h more than the posted speed limit. Driving at speeds of 50 km/h or more over the speed limit is considered stunt driving as per Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was issued with a Summons to court to answer to the charge. The driver’s licence was seized as part of a 7 day licence suspension after which the driver must pay Service Ontario the full price of reinstatement. The vehicle was also seized for a period of 7 days as per the regulations. The full cost of the tow and storage is the responsibility of the vehicle owner. Notwithstanding the financial costs involved, it is for your safety and ours that we ask that everyone obey the rules of the road.
