Strawberry Festival

The 2017 Strawberry Festival is now behind us.  From all accounts it was a resounding success.  LaSalle Police Officers responded to a few minor incidences in the park.  Call volumes to the LaSalle Police Service Dispatch Centre were higher than normal.  Officers were involved in several calls for service including impaired driving, break and enter, family disputes, domestic related calls, mischief complaints and drunk and disorderly calls.

Suspected Shoplifting

On June 7, 2017, police attended a retail store at the Windsor Crossing Outlet for a report of suspected shoplifters; at approximately 6:00 pm, two females were seen exciting the store at which time the security “beeper” went off. An employee approached the two females; however, they fled on foot; the females are described as: Suspect 1: early 20’s, 5’7″, f/w, skinny build, blond hair with high ponytail, wearing dark black top and shorts.; Suspect 2: Early 20’s, 5’6″, f/w, thick build, brown hair in a bun, wearing black t-shirt and jeans. Motor Vehicle Accident

On June 6th, ’17, just before 8:00 AM – LaSalle Police officers attended the intersection of Malden Rd. and Front Rd. for a two vehicle collision. The investigating officer attending the scene determined that the vehicle which had been waiting to turn left from Front Rd. to Malden Rd. made the turn as another vehicle was travelling north along Front Rd. The vehicle travelling North – through the intersection had the right of way, and it could not stop in time to avoid a collision with the vehicle which turned in front of it. Driver over 80 at 10:00 a.m.

On Sunday June 4th, at approximately 10:00 AM one of our officers was stopped at the intersection of Hwy 18 and Morton Drive when he observed a vehicle go through a red light. The officer followed and stopped the vehicle. While speaking with the driver, the officer immediately detected alcohol on the driver’s breath. When he asked the driver about the alcohol smell, the driver replied he had consumed a few beers the previous evening while watching a hockey game at a friend’s house. The driver was asked to blow into a Roadside Screening Device, and he failed the test.

Theft of Trailer and Tools

On Saturday, June 3rd between Noon hour and 3:30 PM a 12 foot black enclosed MTI trailer bearing Ontario Licence M9115E was stolen from Gabrieau Street in LaSalle. The double axle trailer has Ontario Licence plate M9115E Black. Hydro Scam Alert Last week a local business man responded to a call regarding his Hydro account. He was out of his office when he called the number (1-800-467-0529 fake #) given to his office staff about the Hydro account being in arrears. Once on the phone he learned from the man at the other end that he “owed’ Essex Powerlines $2800. Driver Charged with Stunt Driving

A young lady from Amherstburg was travelling through town on Front Road, in a vehicle owned by her father. One of our officers was conducting radar enforcement at the same time and clocked the young lady – speeding at 107km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone. The young lady was stopped and charged with Stunt driving. She now has a date with a judge at Traffic court. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The yound lady also got a licence suspension for 7 days. #YouSpeedYouLose #NotWinning !

Missing Man Found

LaSalle Police assisted in finding an elderly gentleman who was reported missing from a local assisted-living facility. The call to police came in just after 02:00AM. The responding officers attend the area, and within minutes located the gentleman at Sandwich West Parkway and Huron Church Line lying on the ground, unable to get up. An ambulance was asked to attend the scene to assess injuries to the senior citizen.
